gnoll stronghold slowdown

I have never encountered any sort of slowdown but when I was at the GS (north west section, the actual stronghold area) it started snowing and it Crawled whenever a gnoll was on screen. The snow was slow, the text churned and the clock was stuttering, and combat looked about like 3 fps.
It never did this while encountering anything else on that map, just the stronghold itself, could it be the snow factoring in?
