Should I just wait for BG2 Enhanced?

Hello All,

First let me start off that I am a HUGE fan of the Baldurs Gate Series and I am really excited to see a company try to work with the game that has entertained me for years on end. I have seen some of the video and screens and I like what they have done with the product and think it looks really smooth. Being a QA guy I understand the hardship of dealing with bugs so the issues being worked are not and will not be a concern as it's clear the devs care about this being great. I funny enough had just finished playing through a heavy modded version of BG1 when I found out this had been released and I wanted to know if it was really worth a buy.

The thing that is holding me up is whether I should just wait for BG2 Enhanced to be released so I can play everything together. Is there enough changed or updated in variety from the basic modded game to make it worth playing even if I must impatiently wait for the second game to be finished? I guess I am looking for a fans perspective on what makes this enhanced edition awesome from the original and what keeps them from just waiting for both to be available as a set.

If you are looking for lots of new content (compared to Tutu for instance) you won't find it (at least not at the moment). There are new weapons/items and 3 new NPC's with their own storylines (maybe a few hours worth of new content), but if you've already played the game then I would wait until BG2EE is released before buying BGEE.

If you can wait then feel free to wait for 2.

It feels strange to me to play a game but not carry the character all the way through to bg2.

I got the game because I wanted to support the initiative. They haven't changed or added anything ground breaking.

You can also play BG:EE then export your character to BG2.

I'm probably going to wait for BG2:EE myself. Only 5-11 months to go!

I'm having a ton of fun with BG:EE, even though I haven't finished a run yet. I keep finding new classes from these forums that I want to try and starting over hehe So, the original saga is keeping me plenty busy at the moment. Plus I have a couple of other games I play, so I can wait. I think. I hope.

I imported my BG1 EE savefile last week and playing non stop BG2 now with my character from BG EE. I'm hooked again! I dont think you will be seeying such a difference between the EE edition of BG2 and the original. The original BG2 looks even better then the BG EE edition imo.
Currently at the underdark with vicci and jaheira, damn this game is good. The party banter is top notch, no game has come close yet.
Dont wait for the EE edition of BG2, just play it now.

Support the developers, buy the game. I must admit BG2 is my favourite game of all time, but I never knew BG1 could be so enjoyable, it's punishing, challenging and extremely fun. I might now put BG1 on even ground with BG2... might.

I think BG1 is enjoyable for an entirely different reason. BG1 is HARD, you're level one, but that is fun! Every extra level makes you feel like you really accomplished something, BG2 you're already powerful from the start. If you're a fan of BG2, buying BG:EE is essential. At the very least, you're supporting the developers.

uhm... I don't think you are going to get a decisive answer on this one.
Normally I'd say go for what you feel.

    But just to summarize:
Others have stated that the BG:EE did not change all that much contentwise/engine wise that haven't already been done with mods. Considering that you are a mod veteran it really comes down to black pits + the 3 new npc's and their story.
Personally I LOVE the three npc's but I haven't gotten around to play the black pits part of the game.

Yeah I am totally on the fence. Part of me wants to encourage the devs but since I literally JUST finished a BG1 modded game after spending hours trying to get the mods to all work together there's part of me that doesn't want to go back. I think i'll purchase it just not right now. Give me time to play through my modded BG2 with my imported character and i'll probably want to come back.

I rolled Cavalier in BG1 so I started powerful heh and now it's just grown over time. Damn the leveling is slow, and I wish I would have realized 2hander was a better choice then 1hander + shield once you reach BG2 for a pally.
