Custom voice WAVs won't play in game

So I'm trying to import some custom voice sound sets. I'm copying the files to "Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition\Data\00766\lang\en_US\sounds". They play successfully during character creation, but once that's complete they won't play at all in-game. The files appear identical in format to the pre-supplied generic voice sets - 352kbps WAV files. Initially I thought part of the problem was dues to the fact that some of the files were in the old BG1 WAVC format, but I converted them and still nothing! They play fine in Windows Media Player and, as I said, at character creation, just not in-game. They appear to be named correctly (xxxa.wav-xxxm.wav), etc. so I'm unsure what the problem is.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT 1: I just did a quick sanity check: I Copied one of the existing, out-of-the box sound sets (Male1x.wav) and renamed it. The result was the same - The sounds are audible in character creation don't work in game. However, the original version, un-copied, works just fine. So it's not a formatting issue.

EDIT 2: Looks like this is a known bug. I never found these threads the first few times I searched, but of course they showed up after I'd posted my own:

Hopefully BeamDog will fix this ASAP. I don't really consider feature removal as an "enhancement". :(
