Best way to print manual?

I'm a bit of a newbie here and I really think I should read the 170+ page manual. However, it is highly stylized and comes out of my printer with a shaded background which I assume is going to eat up my ink cartridge quite quickly. To avoid staring at my monitor for hours when reading.. what is the best way to get the manual to a basic text format that is printer friendly?

I don't think you can do this with Acrobat Reader, but if you have a full version of Acrobat you can save the pdf as a txt file.
