Killing Candle Keep

Out of curiosity, is there a way to kill most of Candle Keep and have a reputation of 1 and still get Gorion to talk to you so you can leave instead of killing you?

I would think no, but people have done stranger things.

would you even be strong enough to take down all those guards plus the few priests and firebead then have enough money to acquire potions to support this assault. Highly unlikely before you even got to gorion.

It was more of a hypothetical, if there was a way to get Gorion to talk to you once your rep was 1 and the entire keep was turned on you. Like with charm or something.

I think it is possible to use the CLUA console to leave Candlekeep without talking to Gorion. I can't remember if that breaks the game or not, though. I recall trying it once with vanilla BG1 and to my surprise I think I was able to complete the game, alhtough I can't quite remember for sure. That was about 10 years ago, lol. (Edit: I believe it is: CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AREA") where AREA = the area code. AR2700 is the easterly one adjacent to Candlekeep.)

I'm pretty sure players have managed to kill Gorion over the years. Don't ask me how. I would imagine that you have to import an uber killing machine character to do it, of course. And what fun would a game like that be? Starting as god-like I mean.

I don't know if Ctrl+Y works on Gorion... And if it worked would it then break the game?

You have zero hope against Gorion and Tethtoril with a level 1 character. They will kill you dead and done. So you would have to avoid them in the "kill Candlekeep" scenario. But you could manage to kill everyone else and use the CLUA console to start the game without the conversation with Gorion. Then of course the references throughout the game to your father's death won't make a lot of sense, unless you imagine that you poisoned him with a Geas before leaving or something like that.

Also, if you avoid talking to Gorion and leave Candlekeep without that conversation, then he'll be standing there when you return later in the game... And I'm pretty sure Winthorp respawns at the inn.

Just a follow-up to what I posted above, after a little testing:

Ctrl+Y does work on Gorion and Tethtoril.

Ctrl + J will get you outside the walls of Candlekeep but still within it's map area if you wish to imagine that you scaled the walls or whatnot.

CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR2700") does take you to the first area to the east. Imoen reappears in the area outside Candlekeep, even if you killed her earlier. So for continuity's sake you'd want to leave her be until you leave the fortress and take care of her after.

You do have access to the adjacent areas from AR2700.

Now whether all this will break the game later, I cannot say.

This could be a mod, actually. From an RP standpoint, what's needed here is a Geas spell for Gorion and Tethtoril. You'd need two such scrolls at the start to be cast at those two. Perhaps a modification in the conversations with each of them, giving the opportunity to use the Geas. Then perhaps Gorion even kicks you out! Or goes hostile on you but you're able to flee.

Gorion kicks you out for not taking out the garbage and leaving your room in such an untidy state and not putting his books back in the right order. You were a burden to his studies and now you have been shunned from the Amish Candlekeep community.

I think I recall that Gorion and Tethtoril both have a boatload of magic resistance. Not to mention that fhey are way high level to begin with and would save against a level 1 caster's Charm spell even if they didn't have magic resistance. My memory is hazy on it but that's my recollection.

  • Well killing Gorion
Assasin and blackguard - with posion
Wizard slayer - Prevent him from using magic

The Wizard Slayer would have to actually *hit* Gorion or Tethtoril! (10 times.). A level 1 blackguard or assassin isn't even going to tickle them. They are insanely high level and have humongous HP.

That would be a hacked character. Sort of amazing to see though.

Yeah, I came across it while googling things about killing candle keep or gorion etc... and thought it was amusing.

Edit: The title of the video was "Shortest Game Ever" which I also found amusing.
