High Level Thief Vs High Level Fighter abilities.

If you're a grand master in a single weapon (not dual wielding), are there high level fighter abilities that would outweigh the wait of dual classing at a higher level? My plan is to dual at level 13 early in BG2 with a character I got bumped to 10 already from doing the black pits with 7/2 attacks per round naturally. With improved haste this gets bumped to 7 attacks per round, so I'm not missing greater whirlwind all that much.

But...Critical hit and damage resistance due to Hardiness seem cool.

Also assassination, Avoid Death, Use Any Item, Greater Evasion, Time Trap, Explosion Trap, and spike trap all seem overpowered by comparison to most of the fighter HLA's....

If you have to only have one set of the HLAs, I'd say thief > fighter which you already see. I don't think the fighter HLAs are worthwhile getting then dual classing your character if that is what you are thinking about doing. You would be dual classing your toon in late SOA / TOB and then be running around with a wuss until he regains his fighter classes probably right at the end of the game. Dualing at 13 is preferable to that. Multiclassing you don't have to pick one set or the other.

Fighter HLAs are good, but honestly the Thief HLAs justify the entire class throughout the entire Saga, they're just that great.

spike trap is cheesy and exploity as hell, but a fighter/thief can do a hell lot uglier things than 20d10 damage during the 10 seconds of a time trap.

as an added note, something I forgot from the end of my previous comment: don't ever set traps in places where the enemy will miraculously appear, or next to a currently non-aggressive enemy you plan on murdering. that's just really fucking cheap. place 'em outside their field of view, and bait them onto it. it's way more fun and satisfying, and won't make you feel like a 2$ hooker.

The only time trap bombardment is totally legit, is if you're a bounty hunter and hit the enemies with a maze since..since your character knows exactly where and roughly when they're going to return...and it is awesome as hell to just sit back and watch that beautiful symphony of destruction unfold.

Seriously, I pulled that crap on Aesgareth's party in Watcher's Keep during my solo BH run...You could almost literally match Ode to Joy to the chunk explosions as they popped back in 1 or 2 a round.
