add a shadow mage specialization. and make it where if you are a shadowmage you can't use weave magic

They're functionally identical to a regular mage except your evocation/transmutation spells would cast 1 level lower, and your necromancy, enchantment, and illusion would cast 1 lvl higher...and you'd be immune to the wild mage level of the Watcher's Keep...and you'd suck at dispelling other casters while they'd suck at dispelling you.

That's the only difference applicable to BG.

It would take some major duplication of resources, but I wouldn't be opposed to something like this.

But it would only be worthwhile if some of the existing mages were switched to make use of the kit as well. If you're the only Shadow Mage in Faerun, you'll be spending a lot of your time being very alone.

You'd get along smashingly with Viconia, the shadow weave belongs to Shar.

I would actually quite like a Shadow Mage class, although I must say that a Shadowmage companion would perhaps be more interesting.
