Prestige Classes

Would you like to see some of these added and if you would, what would those be? Do you think it has any impact on your own character progression?

    You already get high level abilities. Prestige classes would probably function in a similar way.

    Would be coo as Gaelan Bayle would say, but prestige classes only really make sense if they're weaved into the story somehow. They probably work best if there are multiple factions you can choose between that each offer special training for your class (Example: a paladin who joins an order of dragon slayers).

    My point is, there would have to be a lot of new extra content added for this to work out. I'd probably want them to put their time into crafting new quest lines and such instead, but if prestige classes can be weaved in somehow without too many sacrifices, then shure :)

    I like prestige classes they work well in 3E, I'm not so sure they would do well in 2E though with the way experience works with dual classing and multiclassing. If the prestige was a dual class then you only can dual into it and only get the benefits from your old class after you've leveled up your new class to a higher level. For multiclass you would have to split XP between the prestige class and the base class.

    Prestige classes in 3E are more viable because you can level up in them and not have those same restrictions. You can start as a thief classes add assassin class levels and you don't have to start all over at 0 xp. You also don't have to split XP between thief and assassin classes.

    Those are good points Winthal and it should work gamewise. Gorion was Monk, Mage. Why wouldnt char go the same path as his mentor and even excell at such, becoming Archmage or whatever prestige class Monk have.

    I have been reading that Sarevok class was Deathbringer, dont know if that is a prestige class or kit. Your character if being evil and obsessive personality might want to learn all about his opponent ans maybe go same path. There is just so many options storywise that can be implemented.

    In Baldurs Gate one hears about different prestigeclasses and first for me to hear was Archmage. I thought that being deafault as one is high lvl caster. Until I figured you acually get neat skills next to the "title". Elemental mastery...c'mon, i have been DREAMING of having that ability for my mage char sice the first game :)

    I am not sure how it would be implemented in game as I am unfamiliar with coding and if that is possible in infinity engine. Also I think BG series are set with 2nd edition rules. But this being PC gamesome of this rules should be bendt for gameplay. It would also be cool if thief and warrior classes had more executable abilities. Making these classes more dynamic to play.

    Kits are the prestige classes of 2nd Edition. Considering you can already specialise/customise your fighter/cleric/thief/etc into a specific role (with some exceptions, like the monk), I don't see why prestige classes are neccessary. This is a better request for IWD2:EE.
    You can learn special abilities when you hit level 20 and get the epic abilities, this adds even more flavor to the class.

    Also;

    Gorion was a Mage, nothing else. Candlekeep has monks, no eastern break-stonew-with-fists monks but reads-a-lot-of-books monks, the Christian variety as it were. They have the titel of monk, but are not the class monk.

    God the word Monk sounds weird if you say/read it enough.

    Thanks for that info. BG series being 2nd edition wouldnt work with prestigeclasses it seems. I guess dream of Elemental Mastery is no more, oh well.

    To get prestige classes to work in 2E would probably involve a permanent class change. Quests to start the change make sense too. I love the idea, but I'd be impressed if it can be implemented.

    Yeah I guess if it was like a dual class but you didn't go back to 0 XP just started leveling in a new class while retaining your base class ability. It would be unique.
