Baldur's Gate 2 can get REALLY slow sometimes

Playing on Windows 7, and feeling rather too impatient to wait for BG2:EE (though I will still buy it when it comes out), I installed my old copy of the game. For the most part it works fine, apart from an occasional twitch, but in some places it suddenly gets really, really slow and twitchy and almost unplayable. The only solutions I've heard to the problem would be disabling 3D acceleration or increasing frame rate, both of which did absolutely nothing in my case.

Any other ways to solve this stuff?
