BG:EE II

Well every day has been like Christmas for me since the release of BG:EE. I'm having loads of fun playing through this childhood favorite of mine with several characters already created. But this now feels like a tease leading up to my favorite of the series, Baldur's Gate II. Believe it or not I actually found my old SoA and ToB official strategy guides in my dresser. Worn, torn and just in enough shape to read. After browsing through them again I've unintentionally made myself most anxious for the release of BG:EE II (Not to mention the possibility of Baldur's Gate III). Anyone want to speculate on when they think it will be ready for release?

tl;dr

When do you think BG:EE II will come out?

If I had to guess, I'd say the same time next year as BG:EE came out, that is, at the end of November.

I am also interested in Planescape: Torment, whose engine is quite out of date but the storytelling is excellent.

I would guess around the end of this year.

    When was BG1:EE announced?

I hope we get concrete confirmation by mid year, then as others have said, november or december next year would be nice.

If you mean confirmation as to whether or not it's happening, it's already been confirmed that they're definately making BG2:EE. Also, think they're aiming for a 2013 release, not next year.

That was also my understanding, that they were aiming for a release this year.

I think people mean 'Next Year' as in 2013. It is hard to adjust to these things.

I'm hoping it will be here possibly by summer.

Kotaku's earliest reporting was on July 26th. So maybe it's possible we will see it sometime this year after all given how quickly the first game came out.

I think they said they were aiming for the Summer, since Trent said he wanted to experience some sunlight this year. I think we can expect it late Summer.

Baldur's Gate is a very long game and they can still release some patches and new DLCs.
Aiming for Summer is too soon for me.

Well, according to Trent Oster's latest tweets, "Content team is on #BG2EE, the technology team is still on #BGEE fixing and shipping new platforms." So it sounds like work has already begun...

I read that too, but I'd be surprised at anything before November, especially with as much trouble as the first release had. Didn't that comment happen before the pushback on BGEE?

I'm uncertain whether it was or not.

When's the summer? It's hard to tell with different timezones. It's august there, right?

I predict it's going to be a bit meh. I mean BG2 runs fine on modern hardware anyway, i doubt they'll be changing much in the engine, which leaves us basically with content.... which if this release is anything to go by isn't any better than the boatload of free mods that already exist for the vanilla game.

One of the biggest things about EE1 and 2 is that they render BG more convenient for modders. Which obviously means more modded content in short time.

Roughly around August, yes. But with the weather being so random it's hard to tell anymore.

Nonetheless I'm about to breakdown and buy the original SoA and ToB sometime soon. I'm going nuts over here.

My understanding is that BG2:EE will use the same engine as BG:EE, so I wouldn't write off the possibility of a summer release.

Yeah, and most of their struggle with BG:EE had to do with the engine and the bugs around said engine. Thus, "Content team is on #BG2EE, the technology team is still on #BGEE fixing and shipping new platforms." The technology team's working on squashing BG:EE bugs, but as almost all of them have to do with the engine, those bugs will also be fixed for BGII:EE. So, with the technology team essentially fixing bugs for both BG:EE and BGII:EE (with a little more focus on the former), and the content team working on BGII:EE, I think BGII:EE being out in Summer isn't too far-fetched.
