I think the role of protagonist makes a real difference in terms of immersion. You can just shadowkeeper 12 points onto your gnome and get the same impact but she can't get the same feeling of being the person around whom the whole story is centering without being the protagonist. Unless you want the protagonist role for yourself (which would only underscore the difference it makes), then this is a no downside, easy fix with a single tweak to hit points. You can even take the find familiar spell out of the gate or wait to tweak your HPs until after you get the scroll if you want to avoid any advantage.
As a digression, I think the 12 extra hit points is huge for a pure caster in BG1. It is like 2-3 additional levels worth of HPs or moving from a character than can be one shotted by a non-critical strike from a kobold to sturdier than a starting half-orc 19 constitution fighter.
I found my first game I was really interested in just killing everything with bows and have healers. Now I try to mix it up, but I do make sure everybody has a ranged and a melee, except my pc was a duel weald fighter and it is too much effort to go to inventory to make a change to bow. They should fix it to make having an offhand easier to switch to 2 handed. Anyway, off topic. Point is, try something simple like an archer or tank and maybe make her capable of both for different situations.
If they were to only ever patch one more thing for BG1:EE I would want the icewind dale 2 interface for weapon sets. Also the IWD2 interface for buttons so I might actually play a Cleric / Thief.

That suggestion is never ever off topic.
