There is a +2 scimitar somewhere on the ground in the spider area of the cloakwood forest. This is just sitting on the ground so it can disappear if you rest in the area.

There is a +2 on top of Durlags tower.

There are 2 +3 scimitars and are the best weapons in the game if you kill drizit. (One of them is usable by good alignment only, but the other is usable by anyone who can use scimitars)

Can't think of where any +1 scimitars are at the moment but I know they exist.

    Edit:

However the scimitar proficiency also applies to wakizashis and ninja-tos. I know of a +1 wakizashi in the Dorn ambush when traveling to Nashkal Mines after talking to Dorn in the Friendly Arm Inn.

In the starting area of Candlekeep, you can buy a Scimitar.
Ninja-To's and Wakizashis also use Scimitar proficiency, so you can use them, too.
    Also buyable in Candlekeep shop.

If you delve into the new NPC's story lines, you'll pretty soon find a +1 Ninja-to.
a +2 Scimitar is found in Durlag's tower and in the Cloakwood (4th chapter).
You can steal both Scimatars + 3 off Drizzt.

There is another ninja to in nashkel if you can't afford scimitar or wakizashi.

Unfortunately I don't think Druid's can use ninja to.

Go to Durlag's Tower and talk to the guy just to the right of where you pop into existence on the map, he sells Scimitars. Then for the love of God don't go exploring.

    One correction:

It's a +1 Wakizashi you get from the ambush encounter where one of the new NPCs appears

BTW I always try to buy the Wakizashi and Ninja-To available in Candlekeep, the latter, in particular, is quite cheap, both are faster than scimitars (though have the same proficiency) and the Wakizashi is a *piercing* weapon that does 1-8 damage, much better than a short sword!

I am guessing that Durlog is Durlag's stingier brother? The one with the cheesy comb over.

well i bought 3 scimitars in burlog's tower and then got the hell outa there...il return later.

I am guessing that Burlog is Durlog's nephew? The one who owns the tower in Larswood ... it's pretty comparable to Durlag's, just a bit smaller.

A good solution would be to start as a human fighter to use the cheap indestructible ninja to and then dual class to druid in BG2. :)

Unfortunately, according to NearInfinity, all of these "exotic" swords actually do have the "breakable" flag set, like all other non-magical metal weapons:

    SW1H20.ITM - Scimitar

    SW1H48.ITM - Ninja-To

    SW1H46.ITM - Wakazashi

    SW1H43.ITM - Katana

Do we know for sure that the "Breakable" flag in NI refers to the iron-shortage crumbling?

It refers to whether a sword is Breakable or not.
All magic swords don't have the Breakable flag, so we can infer from that, that all swords with the Breakable flag can be broken, and therefore tied to the iron shortage.

I just checked fighter/druids can't use ninja-to and im willing to bet they can only use scimitars...but i need to find where i can buy one...im still in chapter 1 .

I juts checked Jaheria (a fighter/druid) can use Wakizashis but not Ninja-Tos, for some reason, which is odd as if anything I would've though it would make more sense for her not to be able to use the *piercinf* weapon, not the slashing one. Actually in most situations (except where a particular enemy has a full or partial immunity to slashing weapons), piercing weapons are more likely to hit against most armour, so if if have a choice of using a Scimitar/Ninja-To vs. Wakizashi and they're of the same enchanctment level (sometimes even if the later is one lower), the Wakizashi can be the better choice (it's also the faster of the 3).

For details of the affects of different armour on blunt, slashing, piercing and missile damage, see the useful visual guide here:

and you can get a +1 Wakizashis quite early on, as previously indicated...

It's a great early game weapon, especially for a Druid, Thief or Bard (where the speed really helps)
