Jaheira and Khalid spawn levels?

What levels could they start at? I usually arrive at level 2 but one of them I remember being level 1?

All npcs join you at a level relatively equal to what you are at. Its based on xp so a multiclass like jaheira will be slightly lower

yeah but i heard there are several versions of the npcs and they choose the closest rounded down. i was wondering what levels i might find them at when i pick them up so next time i might play with just me and imoen for a while and pick them up at one of these points while they will be very close to me in exp.

The game levels up the npcs as you level, and it often does a pretty bad job of picking proficiencies and stuff.

You are always better to get the npcs you want early so you can level them yourself.

I don't know what you mean by "versions"

The only thing I can think of that sounds like what you are talking about is in BG2 when you rescue Imoen.

The following thread contains, among other things, information on NPC levels and how to recruit them at a lower level:

@Rhaegar didnt think about that. i was just thinking about how much faster i would be able to get exp
@Itstucktwice I meant what level they would start at for different pc levels
@Erg Thank you for the link :)
i guess maybe it is just a good idea to rush over killing nothing then start killing. or i could edit the random proficiencies with shadowkeeper, but that just doesn't feel legit for me

As stated in the discussion linked in my previous post, you can also kill and do quest as usual and just avoid to press the button to level up (despite having enough XP to do it) until the desired NPCs have been recruited.
