advice on my multiplayer slots

i'm starting a 2player campaign with a friend at the weekend and i've got the following slots:
Healer. Front liner. Wild card.
He gets the thief (because I can't detect traps), a front liner and a mage.
we've decided not to discuss too much what the other has specifically, but if i know him at all he'll go archer/swashie/conjurer (i'd go m/t, sorcerer, some sort of paladin, but whatever). we're also fairly competitive and while i'll obviously party heal, i won't be buffing his PCs and i doubt he'll buff mine. so. here are my thoughts
healer: fighter/cleric or ranger/cleric or cleric of lathander. if going f/c, i might as well be r/c for the dual wielding and druid spells, but i've been SPing a CoL and he's immense. Boon of Lathander is an awesome ability and stacks well with haste and holy power (3 attacks per round, thaco of a same level fight, 18/00 strength, +1hp per level, +1 bonus to damage and hit). i've not even had to min/max him (13,14,18,13,17,11) and he's great.
front liner: kensai/berserker. haven't played either, feedback welcome.
wildcard: either a paladin (for carsomyr in BG2) or a blade (so i can buff myself). other than an inquisitor the other pallys are fairly redundant and this gives me our definite 2nd tank. on the other hand a blade can tank with defensive spin and dps like crazy with offensive. throw in some good arcane spells and well and we're cooking. BUT that could mean our warriors are a blade, archer, kensai and cleric, none of which can take a hit naturally.
so let me know what you think.
