Dual class and weapon restrictions, thief skills

I noticed that Imoen - while gaining levels in mage cannot use the bow. Once her thief levels activate she can use it again.

I started a Archer and dualed him to Cleric. After regaining enough cleric levels he is unable to use any archer weapons.

Why is this different?

Also the following: After regaining the thief levels Imoen has "reset" her thief skills to almost nothing. i had 80 detect traps, now its something like 10. this looks like a bug.

Mages are not able to use bows. As long as Imoen has not regained her Thief abilities, she is technically a single-class mage and can only use mage weapons. Once she regains her thief levels, she can use bows again because thieves can use bows.

On the other hand, clerics are not allowed to use sharp weapons, so a cleric can never use a sword.

The difference is between "not able to" and "not allowed to". You can use any weapon which at least one of your active classes allows, and which none of your classes disallows.

Definitely looks like a bug! Immy should regain her abilities from before she dualled without changes.

The cleric weapon restrictions do over-ride everything else. It's considered a faith issue for them, and is non-negotiable. While the weapon restrictions on mages and thieves are just about training.

I've never had that happen with Imoen. Try to dual again from an older save maybe? Obviously a glitch.

thanks. an archer/cleric is about the worst character possible due to this restriction.

i've moved on and left bugged imoen behind in the forest. alone. coran is now in her position, hopefully gaining enough find traps soon.
