Viconia - Medium Shield

Hi all.

I didn't want to post this as a bug as my knowledge of ADnD is pretty basic at best so thought I'd ask here and see.

I'm starting a new playthrough today and am currently working on getting my party together, I just rescued Viconia to be my Cleric.

The problem I'm having is Viconia has 10 Strength and the Strength requirement for a Medium Shield is 9 but the game isn't letting me equip one.

I have tried removing all armour, I have slept, made sure there are no debuffs or anything on her but..nope, nothing.

I'm just curious if this is a bug or if I have overlooked something?

Edit: Reading over my post, I missed a couple of semi important details.

I am using the newest patch for BG2EE "Update 6" and the error message I get when trying to equip the shield is "Inadequate strength"

The Strength requirement is 12. I've updated the description.

however... you can use a strength spell/gloves/belt on her, then equip the shield, and it'll stay equipped until your next level up - if you're okay with using exploits.

I find Draw Upon Holy Might to be a good choice. Often have it memorized on her anyway.

I usually use DUHM, or cast Strength or something else on her. As long as I don't unequip the shield she keeps hold of it indefinitely. Later I usually give her the gauntlets of ogre power, because nobody else needs them.

I'll probably give her the gauntlets of ogre power but in all honesty I try my best to avoid exploiting the game engine.

I know it can be a little flaky at times.

Is there any other ways to raise her strength permanently? Unfortunately it's been so long since I last played, my knowledge of artefacts and such is just awful.

Not permanently, but you could casts the Strength spell on her (which lasts quite a long time or Strength of One, and just unequip a medium or large shield after it runs out and switch her back to a small shield, though it may be too much mircomanagement

I like her in BGII though. Pure class Clerics are a joke in BG1.

Yeah, it would mean a lot of messing around, I may just equip the shield then and just try to ignore the little voice in my head yelling at me!

She does have a +1 Small Shield just now but lets face it, they aren't exactly amazing.
