*****SPOILER*****
As a sorcerer, at level 6, he should know the following amoutnt of spells :
Level 1 - 4 known spells
Level 2 - 2 known spells
Level 3 - 1 known spell
When you recruit him, on the other hand, he knows the following spells :
Burning Hands
Chromatic Orb
Identify
Larloch's Minor Drain
Magic Missile
Shield
Spook
Detect Invisibility
Melf's Acid Arrow
Mirror Image
Ray of Enfeeblement
Web
Dire Charm
Dispel Magic
Fireball
Haste
Expected behaviour :
His spells known selection should be lowered a bit to be more in line with regular sorcerers.
Suggestion
A bonus for him could be to have +1 known spell at each level
IE.:
Level 1 - 5 known spells
Level 2 - 3 known spells
Level 3 - 2 known spell
(and so on)

And drow with 19 Int, and who knows what background does he have..
I don't see this as a bug,.
In this case we should make bug reports for all original NPCs coz all of them have some "bugs", like higher stats, special abilities, etc.
He basically breaks the rules.
If his power came from an artefact, or from his ring, sure, that's fine. But his amount of spells known sounds more like an oversight from he previously beeing a Wizard (If you force him to join your party in the back pits, you'll see that he's a Wizard there)
Will certainly take a look and see what's going on with him. You may be right... but I know he has an item that grants him extra spells similar to edwin.
Sorcerers are not meant to know a lot of spells. See my original thread for that.
You can also check this : http://playithardcore.com/pihwiki/index.php?title=Baldur's_Gate:_Progression_Charts#Sorcerer
This will give you the amount of spells known for a sorcerer at each level.
Also note that my message on having him beeing forced joined as a Wizard is just an explanation on the reason why he knows way more spells than should be possible to a sorcerer.
Maybe his CRE file just got copied from the black pits, and his spells known slightly adjusted... but unfortunately, Sorcerer should know few spells, but be able to cast them a lot, and at will.
He got a twisted slave ring (ironic punishment): this should cover the number of spells he memorizes.
If that covers all issues, then tell me and we can close this
Describe expected behavior: Baeloth should either have the same as a normal sorcerer or his ring description should be updated.
A starting level 5 sorcerer and max level 8 should have the following spells cast per day/spells known
1st 2nd 3rd 4th
Lvl 5] 6/4 4/2
Lvl 6] 6/4 5/2 3/1
Lvl 7] 6/5 6/3 4/2
Lvl 8] 6/5 6/3 5/2 3/1
Lvl 9] 6/5 6/4 6/3 4/2
Baeloth has the following (i started with him at lvl 6)
1st 2nd 3rd 4th
Lvl 6] 6/7 5/5 3/4
Lvl 7] 7/8 7/6 5/5
Lvl 8] 7/8 7/6 6/5 4/1
Lvl 9] 7/8 7/7 7/6 5/2
Slave Ring - Cursed Ring of Ironic Punishment
Statistics
Equipped abilities
- The wearer can memorize 2 extra 2nd-level spells, 1 extra 3rd-level spell and 1 extra 4th-level spell.
It seems the ring might be giving him an extra 2 memorized spells for level 1,plus 3 known spells at for lvl 1 that isn’t mentioned on the ring.
Also its not only giving him extra memories spells for level 2, 3 and 4. But also extra know spells.
This however might be explained away by the fact that he says something along the lines of "I am only part of my former self" when you first meet him. So perhaps he is supposed to have extras. Or there may be some change from the original BG vs the EE that having an INT of 19 gives him more spells?
If its not a bug maybe it should still be written on the ring information or even in his description information. The ring is "cursed" and I presume put on him by the djinn who sent him here from the Black Pits when he died. So presuming again that the ring itself is making him "weaker" then his "true" level, but he is still gaining some of his previous power such as all the extra spells. Then i don't see why some of the bonuses are listed but not all the bonuses he is getting from the ring.
Issue 1
When you get Baeloth he can cast the same amount of spells as normal sorcerer. After he gains 1 level, he gains +1 spells cast on each level, just like Edwin's Amulet gives. Or like specialist mage does.
I tried to see what the Slave Ring does and to my surprise it doesn't add any spells cast. All it does is give you -5 thac0 and damage against Genies. And then you can use it to damage wearer+give gems.
After searching a while I could not find out what causes him to get +1 spells cast per level, its as if the game treats him like specialist mage which he isn't.
Issue 2
He has too many known spells for level 6 sorcerer. +3 spells known on levels 1, 2 and 3. I'd say remove 1-2 of those. +3 known spells on each level makes him a mage...
or if its not a bug simply just update the ring description (even if it dosnt actually give any extra spells) which would solve the confusion
Also it might be a good idea to add to the description at least the -5 thac0 and damage against Genies to the ring?
(But I found it fun and nice, that Viconia and Edwin too had their own lines for him. I found myself a little bit sad that I had to say goodbye to the overpowered sorcerer. There was already me and Edwin as casters in the party. I knew that Edwin is added to BG2 too, so I decided to part from B*. (I wonder will B* added to BG2 too?)
Sum: B* is too powerful, he is another of the many NPCs who are stronger as you can get as a PC bec. of their special items or abilities. Thx for reading.
That being said, if you decide to drop any, Just don't drop identify. If you plan on a party of Baeloth and Edwin, and you take away Identify from Baeloth then neither mage can cast it. Yuck. If I had to pick one -- Larloch's Minor Drain. But once again, I wouldn't drop any for him. So there's that.
