how do i export my bg1 save to bg2?

i heard its possible to export the bg:ee file to your normal bg2 game
but when i export my character and name the file after him it doesnt show in the character folder in my documents...
what am i doing wrong?

    here is what i did. I exported my character right after savork died. Then i copied the saved file both the bio and char files then pasted them into the character file of my BG2 directory
