connecting steam+standalone version

a friend bought BGEE on steam today. it got the original standalone a few weeks ago. we are unable to join the same game since we have different versions (2012 vs 2010)

is there any solution for that?

    You'll have to wait until Steam receives the 2012 patch, unfortunately. One of the less pleasant side-effects of Atari choosing to release on Steam without consulting Beamdog first.
