"Start Over" Button

The one in the character creation screen.

Who has experienced this: spending about an hour on character creation, until your new optimal multiclass demi-god is finished. Ready to start in Candlekeep and charge that guard for his shiny plate mail, you accidentally press the "Start Over" button instead and BAM... your character is gone.....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Who feels my pain?

I think I had experienced that one time. Too frustrating that I know I'll never let that happen ever again. It's easy to overlook the word "Over" because of the word prior to it i.e. "Start".

From your title alone, I thought you were suggesting to add a "Start over" button to Charname death screen, as a nod to the no reload challenge. I don't want to hijack your thread, but I need to say it would be great if the devs integrated a real "No Reload" mode in the game, with "Save on quit" only (and maybe a few easter eggs)!

    What start over button?

The button right below the "Biography" in character creation.

If you're going to spend hours rolling for stats, just CTRL 8 and be done. Doing so is "no less" cheating than just using the console.

It's not rolling for stats. It's figuring out the whole thing, including deciding on the race, class, proficiencies, suitable custom portraits, hair and skin colors, wikipedia-ing for a mythological name, readjusting all the things i mentioned before based on new findings etc. etc.

It's not like it's some game or anything, this is Baldur's Gate.

So is there some specific amount of time spent rolling after which it magically turns from a fully-intended game mechanic to cheating?

Starting new game menu is all very chaotic. Positions of buttons cancel and create especially. It's very non-intuitive. But anyway, it's not that big of a deal...

@bigdogchris: Obviously, anyone can have different opinion and taste, but as for me, I get a sense of satisfaction when I spend some time rolling and finally roll great stats. It is absolutely different from using ctrl 8.
Point is that I don't think your statement is valid for everyone.

Is rolling for stats for hours cheesy? I think it is... But I too get the satisfaction feeling when I roll really high. So to me it is a bit confusing... How can cheese be satisfying?

I always find cream cheese to be satisfying. And yes, I also spend most of my time in BG creating characters (specifically rolling stats).

Cheese is one of the best things in the world! You obviously have not had enough cheese.
