Save game compatibility

I was wondering if someone could comment on save`s. I have the steam ver2010. Should I just wait for the 2012 update or is it relatively safe to start playing now and continue my game after the update?

    IIRC, the only issue I had a problem with is the Journal getting kind of tweaked out.
