Random Reputation Decrease From 20 to 13!

Hello

I don't know whether this is a bug or if I've just made a dodgy role playing decision so apologies if this is in an inappropriate forum.

I've been merrily adventuring away in BG:EE since launch without a hitch (except the journal being a tad wonky) playing as the goody two shoes Gnome Illusionist Zook'Zir, and I've been going off the beaten path avoiding the main storyline for the most part.

*SPOILER'S*

However...after completing many side quests and dungeons in a goodly fashion, getting everyone to around Level 7 or 8 and easily having a reputation of 20, I thought it was high time to tackle the bandit problem! My issue is that after flooding the Cloakwood Mine and talking to the happy slave back on the surface I noticed my Reputation had lowered to 13!

I realise I can pay gold at the temple but that feels a bit cheap and tiresome especially after so much righteous arse kicking.

I wondered whether it was my decision to let the Cloakwood Mine Head Honcho's apprentice go with just a clip round the ear? Or maybe my entangle with the druid/noblemen but I'm pretty sure it was still at 20 after that.

If anyone could shed some light on it I'd be grateful. Until then it's back to the Temple for some gold infused grovelling.

Thank you.

If you sided with nobles in the Dryad encounter, your rep takes a tough hit.

Otherwise, maybe you accidentally fireball'd a slave during a fight in the Cloakwood Mines?

I'm assuming you didn't leave the slaves do drown in the mine...?

Did you realaese all the slaves before flooding the mines? (it costs 100g) if you didnt then you killed them all.

Been a long time since I've played so my memory of that section is a bit hazy...

But I do recall Cloakwood being run by slave.

You DID free the slaves first right? They weren't all down there still when you flooded the mine...

Thanks for prompt reply. No I definitely freed them all and though I refused the dwarf's offer to join the party I told him to evacuate too. When I returned to the uppermost level there was only one slave left and he was standing by the plug.

Ha ha and no there wasn't any accidental slave deaths. Zooky doesn't like interior fireballing!. I was MMing, charming and buffing the rest of the party for the most part.

You lose ~half rep on killing an innocent. If you accidentally killed a slave, the guy who's brother died to spiders, or someone else that is pretty much harmless, that would explain a rep drop to probably 11, and flooding the mines is +/- 2 rep depending on how you did that, so +2 for saving everyone.

At that point in the game money is abundant anyway, so throwing a few thousand into the church shouldn't break the bank in any way. Should be able to get the final 2-3 rep you can't get from throwing money at priests in the remaining chapters of the game anyway.
