When you find him the first time, if you have Viconia in the party there's a funny dialogue.

Bring Tiax too, his line is priceless "Though you're 5th greatest spell caster in the realm, I am number ZERO!" (it is something along those lines)

Sorry to intrude now, but I discovered the existence of this guy just today XD (I haven't touched BG EE for three months). What happens if you had already explored Larswood before you were level 5? Can you still come back and recruit him once you are level 5 or he's just gone forever? I'd like to try him with one of my old saves but I explored Larswood nearly at the beginning of the game...

@Lisaralin: I don't think it matters - there was a bug a while back where Baeloth wouldn't appear if you already killed the bandits in the area, but it might have been dealt with in the most recent patch...

if you patched after visiting Larswood Baeloth will not appear, this is valid to any content that comes from a path when related to pre-existent games.

Thanks! I tried with an old save and I met him :) Now I'm going to try him a bit :)

I heard some conflicting rumours - according to some sources Baeloth will, and alternatively will not be featured in BG2:EE. Which is it?

He will not be a joinable NPC, that is clear. It is hinted that there are "other plans" he has, so it's possible he will be an antagonist, quest giver or DLC.

I wonder if there'll be a Black Pits 2 type of thing coming with BG2EE.

Aw, that's no good at all. I was really looking forward to having him in my all-evil party. I hope they add another joinable NPC sorcerer(maybe with a proper dragon twist, that would be just gas).

@Czarny: Sadly, the devs have confirmed that there's only going to be one new joinable NPC in addition to Dorn, Neera and Rasaad. On the bright side, it's very likely that NPC is going to be an evil thief, so your party's getting a new member anyway. :)

I'll take it :) Jan Jansen usually covers my thief needs, but I do think it would be brilliant to have a dedicated evil thief. I usually play a sorcerer anyways ;p

So do I - last time around I kept Imoen as the token Good party member and dedicated thief (it was a BGT/Ascension run, so she only duals to mage if you do it for her).

The first time I ran into him, and of course checked various 'help' links, and sent him off to the Friendly Inn not knowing if he was important or not. I just ran into him again but hadn't saved before I ran into him (picking up loot from 15 gibberlings) and didn't want to chance killing him. Can he be killed? A spoiler with exps and loot would be nice & if reputation goes down or not.) :) Thanks.

He's an NPC, meaning easy kill, no XP, no rep loss. He has a Evil Arch Magi robe and Quarterstaff +1, 20 (I think) Darts +1 and 2 "health" potions, all of which is marked as stolen.
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
Yup, he spawns with his spell book depleted.
  • kamuizinkamuizin Member Posts: 3,704
and 1000 of gold, that come in handy @KidCarnival, if anyone want what he has, doesn't need to kill him necessary, just add him to the party, clean him and kick him out naked.

The darts and potions aren't worth a thing (even if you do have a dart user, 20 won't get you very far) and at level 5, 1000 gold isn't helping much either (at least I swim in gold by that time). But generally, yeah, there's no advantage in killing him.

Going back to the Black Pits with a higher starting level and level cap would be nice as it would give the option of having more difficult fights... Though if they do make one, I hope Baeloth decides to make a bigger arena than the first one. We don't want a dragon in there taking up half the arena just to exist.

The run thru I'm doing now was a complete surprise to find him. My character was 4/4 level. He showed up in the middle of my battle with the Ettercaps or was that kobalds? Little short guys. :)
Getting his loot by having him join, doesn't that make your rep go down if your a 'good' guy team? I think I recall my Paladin protesting and walking away but that was a while ago and my memory isn't all that good at the best of times. :)
