Killed Aldeth Sashenstar *after* Merchant Guild - will Dabron Sashenstar appear? (spoilers)

Hi - I helped Aldeth Sashenstar out against the Druids, so I got his quest in Baldur's Gate in the Merchant's Guild i.e.

Killing all the dopplegangers

After I completed this quest, I talked to Brandilar then Aldeth and collected my reward... then I killed them both (well my party is evil...), HOWEVER, I thought this would mean that Dabron Sashenstar would appear in the carnival area in Central BG so that I could then kill him and get the Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy, but I can't find Dabron anywhere - is he not going to appear now (i.e. do I have to kill Aldeth earlier?) or am I looking in the wrong place. I want *both* the Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy *and* the Bastard Sword +1 (+3 vs Shapeshifters)...

His dialogue will make little sense and that is why he does not show. It's all based on Aldeth being killed in Cloakwood.

Okay, ah well, the Bastard Sword was more important, for a visit to a certain Island, and the rewards (and stolen goods) from the Merchant League were quite nice. I might Shadowkeep Dorn to Longbows instead of Crossbows, though, so he can use the +1 Composite Bow instead.

  • I prefer Dorn with bows anyway. More attacks per round gives better synergy with poison weapon.

If you kill Aldeth in Cloakwood he drops the sword. You probably knew this, but I thought I'd mention it.

Of course then you miss out on the +2 Quarterstaff.

I thought people had long since figured this one out?

"Side" with the Druids, then kill both sides with fireballs as soon as they appear. There's pretty much no downside.

But you do miss out on getting access to the Merchants Guild then

Simpsons guide suggests to do it the way the OP did iirc so maybe it's been changed at some point? I too wanted the best of both worlds but never bothered to wonder where the brother would turn up at.

Remind me, is there anything actually worthwhile you receive from the Merchant's Guild? Because you get the Bastard Sword for killing him in Cloakwood, and a few more dead dopplegangers are a drop in the ocean of Exp you should have at that point.

there's a nice 5k xp reward for the quest on top of about 20 dopelgangers. I was curious so I let him live in the woods and did the quest this time. Dorn inexplicably murdered him afterwards (Branwen assured me he will convert), so i figured his brother would be out for revenge, but nah. Tragic, because I like to give the x-bow of accuracy to my main. +5 weapon + 19dex = no need to burn proficiency slots on a range weapon. Alas, I shall have to continue to run really fast into battle.

I always side with him over the druids because the merchant's league is well worth doing

I always side with the Druids just for that damn Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy ... =P

I sided with the Druid's in my current game, as my Blade doesn't have any proficiency points to spare after putting a pip into scimitars and 3 into dual wield, the Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy at least means he will hit things with a ranged weapon and with defensive spin it does 2 APR and 14 base damage with each hit! :-)
