Question About Automatic Setup for TCP/IP

I have a question about MP.

Is this statement true?

"On local area networks, TCP/IP has an auto-detect feature to automatically set up games."

In my testing, even on a LAN I still have to type in IP of other computers.

    I have a question:
What do you expect from that "feature"?

To me the statement is odd. When I read it, I thought the statement merely means that you probably don't have to set up stuff like port forwarding, if you have a dedicated internet connection or setting up a game for computers connecting to the same router (family time!).

I'm asking, what does it mean? I am simply copy and pasting official text.

It's wishful thinking from the original game; if you were playing through a LAN connection with people on the same network, you wouldn't need to enter any IP addresses because the IP addresses would all be the same.

Unfortunately, it's never worked that way, so the text should probably be updated.
