Ioun Stones

IgnatiusIgnatius Member Posts: 624
Hi all,

Although a veteran player these are my very first steps at customizing the game a little. Thanks to @Erg I am now exploring Near Infinity. Basically what I am trying to do is create specific items that would fit with my PC's in order to enhance character immersion. I was told that the easiest way is to create a copy NEW_ITEM.ITM which would be located in the override directory so as to minimize chances of crash/bugs.

So here I was looking at creating an ioun stone because in my next run I would not like PC to wear a helmet. For aesthetic and RP reasons. The first thing I wanted my ioun stone to do is to protect vs critical hits, just like a helmet. I could not find that ability in the (long) list in NI. Is that hard-coded? does all ioun stones actually protect from criticals by default? how? because they can be placed in the helmet section of the inventory?

cheers

    I'm pretty sure that anything worn on the head protects from critical hits. And yes, I think that this is hard-coded. Therefore this includes ioun stones, despite the item description not mentioning it.

    I never knew this (and it is kind of weird, but difficult to fix I would assume). Thanks a lot anyway !

    I am not a modder but I think one of the newer versions of tobex has removed the restriction that all headware saves against critical kits

    Does anyone know if this fix has been introduced in BGEE too ?
    If this is the case, is it possible to add/remove protection from critical hits from a piece of headgear using NI or some other modding tool?

    Thanks in advance!

    Don't think so .... I've never seen a feature request for it .... perhaps you could ask

    Thanks @James, as new modder wanna be, I was just trying to understand if this was moddable or hard coded in BGEE.

    If you're making items, I might try suggesting the tool DLTCEP ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/gemrb/files/Utilities/ ).

    @ShadowSmuggler

    Thanks for the link. I was just considering to give DLTCEP a try.
