TotSC fight

Seems I can't beat Aec'Letec without losing half my party. Any tips to make the fight more... survivable?

You can never go wrong with potions of "I win" (Potion of Magic Shielding).

I'm not sure if this is still the case but the potions of Mirrored Eyes seem(ed) to block his death gaze attack that causes you to eventually explode and spawn a ghast.

You typically only want to drink these one the battle begins since Aec'letec starts the fight off with a strong dispel magic typically.

Edit: I believe you can buy potions of mirrored eyes from the merchant in the tavern in Ulgoths Beard.

I confirm the fact that Aec'Letec's death gaze is prevented by these potions, but it is dispelled when he casts his spell.

Best solution is either to drink it after the dispell (and pray no death gaze lands before the dispell), or having enough potions for the fight.

you can also use an Otilulke's resilient sphere to incapacitate him and give you enough time to deal with the cultists members.

I beat this fight a couple days ago on insane with my 7th level cavalier. My suggestion, walk downstairs and cast/throw/wand every damn fireball you can all over the place to eliminate the cultists, then take everyone but your toughest upstairs and let him/her go toe to toe while having protection from evil and a potion of magic blocking. It was easy as long as I got the weakest characters from my party upstairs.

I finally managed to get him when I hit him with a wand of paralysis. Even with some party members being held and Imoen having horror cast on her, it was easy to pick off all the cultists. I had plenty of time to kill them all, and then mob Aec'Letec.

I honestly think this is the hardest fight in any Infinity Engine game. Potions of Mirrored Eyes can help, Vocalize is a useful spell, and be sure you have Dispel Magic handy to keep party members from turning into Ghouls. And just expect to have to reload a couple times....

i usually use mirror eyes on the on pm that i run up to talk to her with then we mr demon attacks him i just keep running them around while rest of party kills the cultists.

A rather amusing method I used was to send my tank down alone wearing the Cloak of Balduran after drinking a Potion of Magic Protection to give him 75% MR, then have him run back and forth at the far end of the room with Boots of Speed to keep Aec occupied. Then I send the rest of my party to take out the cultists with missile weapons so they keep out of visual range of Aec. Once they finished off the cultists, I cast Cloudkill and insta-killed Aec. I would have used a Scroll of Magic Protection to make myself completely immune to magic, but I was kind of running low.

I don't know about any IE game since I don't really remember IWD fights, but I'd say it's definitely the hardest fight of the BG saga, and this with the harder Ascension fights installed. Wiped to Ael'telac 15+ times, didn't wipe to any other fight more than couple times during my last playthough of BG1+BG2+ToB(Ascension).

Finally got him down by buffing my party to high heaven, especially the melee drank lots of potions each, in addition to spell buffs. Then I tried to keep Ael'telac busy with summons while my melee killed the cultist extremely fast with all those buffs, and finally whacked the big baddie down. Could have probably cheesed it a lot faster, but wheres the fun in that. ;)

@keltarking - Potions of Magic Shielding and Mirror eyes help a lot.

I would cast cloud kill and skull traps to kill his servants faster, if you have summons you can cast haste them immediately and use them as a buffer to keep him in a cloud kill / skull trap zone.

Concentrate fire on one servant at a time and have a tank using boots of speed with mirror eyes and magic resist pots keep him reoccupied.

Cloud kill can kill him in a solo run. But you have to be FAST.

Death ward is ESSENTIAL on all your characters as a buff...(otherwise someone will get killed with a time delayed finger of death that spawns a friggin' gast)

Greater malison is ESSENTIAL if you decide to use cloud kill. If he manages to save and come after you because you can only cast it once you're done for.

Viconia buffed to a high amount of magic resistance and with boot of speed can be used to keep him preoccupied prior to cloudkill.

I agree with people here, this is by far the most tideous fight in the entire game, but here are some useful tips I found that made it almost ridiculously easy:

First, you will wanna haste your entire party so you can take out the cultists as fast as possible, for you know that when Ael Letec dies he will respawn in the body of one of them.

Ael's most annoying ability is his death gaze wich can freeze all of your party members at once. This can be countered with either potions of mirrored eyes OR potions of freedom, I do recommand freedom though because one strategy is to use the spell "web", this will give you the opportunity to walk freely across the spell .

Buff your party any way you see fit, cultists across town often drop potions of heroism so use them ! the extra hp and Tac0 will be really helpful for taking out the cultists fast.

Go down the stairs, once the fight starts, cast Greater Malison on Ael Letec, this will reduce his saving throw by 4 (his ST are already not very good so he should have a hard time saving) then cast the aforementionned web spell, paralyse will work as well but web will make it so that he has to save as long as he's caught in it so you get more chance of him eventually failing his save... Spread your party so that he has to walk from one member to another and have him run around until he's held...you can also summon monsters to lure him into attacking them. Take out the cultists and Fwala! all you have to do is finish him off, if you have a good archer give him some magic arrows like Acid Arrows and he's toast. avoir melee if possible cause he has a vampiric attack that heals him and very high Tac0.
worked like a charm for me.. hope this helps!
