So.... What do I spend all this money on?

I've just hit chapter 7, and I have about 60,000 gold. And nothing to buy as far as I can tell. Is there anywhere specific that sells good/expensive gear?

Most of your good gear will be found, not bought. Assuming that is, you have bought the best wares of Sorcerous Sundries, the Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost and High Hedge.

Beyond that I tend to spend all my money on expensive high quality arrows and wands of fire/summoning.

High Hedge and Baldur's Gate are where the best shops are.

Also, you can download the Weapons and Armor packs to install new vendors outside the Friendly Arm Inn (One near the stables, the other behind the Inn), which has new magic items...some that are very costly.

Gambling, strong booze and loose women.

You can then waste the rest.

Usually, by the time you're fourth level or so, the gold just starts piling up faster than you can use it. Very common in an AD&D game. In PNP it's when you start thinking about buildings, businesses.... Castles....

I just did the sell wands and rebuy thing. It cose 12k or so apiece but I now have 100 charges of paralyse and 100 of polymorph. There are going to be a lot of annoyed squirrels running around very soon.
  • Courtesans. All of them.

More seriously, in addition to the shops people have already pointed out, there's some good, expensive equipment in Ulgoth's Beard that you can buy. Generally speaking, once I've hit Sorcerous Sundries, Taerom's Smithy, High Hedge, and Ulgoth's Beard, I just stop picking up things when all I'm going to do is sell them. Saves time on inventory management that could be spent questing.

Let's see... if you don't already have these items:

Robes of the Magi for your mages (High Hedge)
    Shadow Armor (Thunderhammer Smithy)
Dagger of Venom, if you have a Thief with prof in Dagger (Thunderhammer Smithy)
more ankheg armor, if needed (Thunderhammer Smithy)
any high level spells that you might want to load in a quickslot (Sorcerous Sundries)
    arrows of dispelling (Sorcerous Sundries)
scrolls of Protection from Magic (Sorcerous Sundries)
scrolls of Protection from Undead (Sorcerous Sundries)
buffing potions (the most powerful ones for meleers, and lots of oils of speed for when Haste runs out) (Sorcerous Sundries)
    arrows of biting (Sorcerous Sundries)

And the inn/shopkeeper at Ulgoth's Beard has some nifty items too. The ring of invisibility. Aule's Staff. The harp for bards. Etc.

So I tried shopping at high hedge, but the one guy I found said I looked too poor to afford anything he has... (jerk) How do I get him to let me trade with him?

Tell him you have magical good to trade etc. It's a dialogue option.

I assume you are talking to the mage of High Hedge in his Partical Accelerator room?

He always says that the first time you talk to him. Talk to him again and you can get him to trade.

I usually buy potions, arrowns of detonations, scrolls, wand recharges, etc and *puf* gold gone.

If you don't use any of that, YES, you will have too much money.

Money in BG is basically for managing your reputation as an evil party. I've found no other uses. Some items/spells you need to purchase but that amount is in no way close to the amount of gold you have.
