Black Blade of Disaster Question

Would a 24 Fighter / 20 Mage who casts Black Blade of Disaster have the thac0 of a level 24 Fighter, or have the thac0 of a level 10 Fighter.

That is when the blade sets your thac0 to the thac0 of a fighter of half your mage levels, does it take the highest of your current thac0 and that new number, or does it overwrite your thac0 with the new number even if that would be bad?

    In BG2/TOB, using a multiclass F lvl 18/M lvl17/T with a base THAC0 of 3 and a THAC0 of -9 with a weapon with which she was specialized, her THAC0 dropped to -10 (improved by 1) after using the scroll so it clearly only adjusted for being a grandmaster and didn't nerf for the caster level.

    I'm not sure if that will change in BG2/TOB:EE.
