Spider Bane Sword: Free Action ?Bug

One of my characters (Ajantis) was using this sword against some Gibberlings. While another of my characters (Imoen) cast Grease at the nearby Gibberlings. The spell worked as intended on the Gibberlings, but also affected my character with the sword equipped. The sword is said to grant FreeAction on it's wielder... it would seem Grease(a movement inhibiting spell) was over looked.
