BG Survey

Please take a minute to fill out this survey to get some more data on our playerbase! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BiTmS5VLuQDuN3te5i2POSSc1V9WgPIMYCTV5s1_SpA/viewform I'll share results after I've got some results. Let me know if you guys want to see more questions on here.

    A couple of things:
The how many hours a day do you typically play bg question doesn't make much sense (I imagine most people typically play 0 hours)
You missed out an npc in the drop down list for bgee
The alignment question doesn't really make sense either.

Thanks, I'll probably revise the survey at some point once I get enough suggestions like this and thought about how to change the questions.

The "how many hours a day" is indeed weird. I imagine many people play more than 2 - 3 hours on SOME days, but not every day. For example, they do that on weekends, and less or not at all on weekdays.

I just averaged it over a week-ish and put 1-2 hours a day. It is a strange question, though.

Yeah, lots of people have commented about the "how many hours a day" I'll probably take it out in future.

Or maybe change it to "how many hours a week you play BG, when you are in the process of a playthrough?". The idea being that, while someone may be playing 0 hours becuase they just happen to be playing other games right now, you could still get an idea of much BG they play. You could probably word the question a bit better than I did though.

Well. I play 0 hours a day. Now I'm waiting for NPC mod to be finished.
And yeah, it is weird question.

    I have suggestion!
    "Which continent you are from?"

Why is there a question about alignment, but not charname class?

That is a hard question...Do you include kits? What about dual/multi classes? I could list every class combination possible but then we run into the problem that the "fave NPC" question ran into: too many choices leads to people not being able to make a decision.

You could make broader categories for the general type of class. Melee Fighter - Ranged Fighter - Stealth - Arcane Caster - Divine Caster or something. Dual/multi and kits could be asked in a seperate question with the options dual - multi/2 - multi/3 - pure - kit.

    I'll give it a shot.

The last question is quite weird. Asking "Do you use mods?" followed by "What mods are you looking forward to?" is the same in my eyes is like asking someone whether the drink coffee, the proceeding to ask them what their preferred style of coffee is. What about people like me that don't drink coffee?
If nothing else add an option that says "not applicable" or "I don't care". Otherwise it makes you seem like you're catering to a sub-group of people rather than everyone like it being a survey implies.

The question about BG3 is also a bit weird. A binary answer doesn't make sense for a game we don't know any details about. For all we know it could be a game where people spontaneously burst into song like the whole place is set in whatever world High School Musical was in, or possibly a FPS with RPG elements in it.

I did like how preferred alignment and preferred gender had multiple selection though. It's a valid assumption that not everyone plays the same thing almost every game.

Also, assuming I answer I do use mods, the following question leaves me with a choice of one type of mod. I would guess if someone answers "item upgrades", they would also look for mods to make the game more challenging (which is a seperate option). I wouldn't want one without the other. And "NPC mods" can be understood in different ways: it could mean banters/romances/quests for existing NPCs (i.e. add personal quest for Minsc, Valygar romance) or it could mean adding new NPCs (i.e. joinable thief). That's two very different things, at least to me. One fills in blank pages of the existing content or finishes abandoned content; the other adds entirely new things.
