Matchmaking for Multiplayer?

Does anyone know when and if the matchmaking is going to be implemented? Also I've had some issues with trying to connect to games of multiplayer and while I've seen the beginnings of a Let's Play which shows that it's possible I seem to get continually stuck on the Joining selected session screen and 9 out of 10 times it ends up being stuck there for ages then the game crashes if it doesn't just crash anyway :(
