Jahiera and scimitar weapon prof?

Jahiera had scimitar/wakisashi/ninjato prof when I picked her up (levl 4/3) but can't equip ninjato?

They are "red" and attempting to equip it gives a message she cannot equip this weapon.

She can equip a wakisashi (and I assume a scimitar altho I don't have one at the moment to try out) is this a feature (perhaps a "druid thing") or a bug?

I'm pretty sure it's intentional, and was the case in BG2.

I'm guessing it's because ninja-to are assassin-type weapons that do not fit in with the druidic philosophy. IIRC scimitars or similar are used in druidic rituals and so are permitted.

I'm pretty sure druids in BG are meant to be able to use scimitars, but not wakisashis or ninjatos. Odd that you can equip a wakisashi, sounds like a bug.

Yes the first thing I thought of when I saw the ninjato could not be equipped was that I thought I recalled druids could only use scimitars and was then surprised to see the wakisashi worked - hence my question as I didn't know if something had been changed with BGEE...

Yes, I think druids can get the Scimitar proficiency and use scimitars, but not ninja-tos and wakizashis.

Just as well in BGEE you can get a +2 Scimitar reasonably early on (well, mid-game) here:

There's always Drizzt's +3 Icing Death Scimitar, if you can get someone to pickpocket it for her (I think you need about 160 pickpockets to do this reliably, I did this recently with my Jester who had 80 base pickpockets, plus the Luck spell and two potions of Master Thievery, giving 165 pickpockets...). You can't use Twinkle with Jahiera, though, as she's not good-aligned, but you can sell in for 5,500 gold...

Staves are also good with Jaheria - you can get a +3 one as soon as you're able to afford it, and blunt weapons are better vs. armoured opponents and some monsters which are resistant to piercing and/or slashing (the latter is less common, though). Even clubs aren't a bad pick, as she starts with 2 pips in them, and in BGEE there are +1 clubs and a +2 club, but Jahiera might not feel comfortable with how you have to obtain the latter...

Well I just dropped her & Khalid off in Nashkel in my Minimal reload (none yet) no rez game as they were getting testy with Edwin and I'm not certain I'll be picking her back up unless I need them to fill in for companions who die along the way. If so I have her weilding the +1 club already and she had 2* in that and only one in scimitars when I got her at level 4/3.

My Beserker 4>thief 5 has 4* in scimitar so he gets first choice anyway... ;-)

Nice to see they added a magical scimitar fairly early without going into DT for it tho.

I guess her being able to weild the wakisashi is a bug then.
