I'm having a little trouble with installing new soundsets. Moving new .wav files into the sound folder doesn't appear to do anything...the files don't appear in the sound folder after drag/drop or copy/paste.
My iPad is jailed. Is jailbreaking necessary for installing custom soundsets?
So installed some of the BG2 Tweeks. Most seem to work, although Identify All Items crashes the game at startup. I'll post a detailed list of the components I have tested.
@Iecerint Here is a work around trick I used. You can overwrite existing soundsets by dropping the sound files into PORTRAITS folder under Library folder via ifunbox. But those sound files had to be named as the same of ingame sounds to overwrite them. So your custom sound files should be named male1a, male1b etc (usually they are already in game format, like XXXa, XXXb, you need to rename them to Male1a or male2a etc) put them in portraits folder and when you choose male1 voice it will be your custom set. Subtitles will not be changed, though I find it a reasonable workout.
Btw there is a similiar workaround for custom portraits, by overwriting original ones. I answered on your thread. I know how important custom sounds and portraits are to enjoy the game and I hope I can be of help.

Thanks for this. I was aware that this workaround was necessary for portraits, but I had been under the impression that this workaround was not necessary for soundsets (cf., the OP, which differentiates between soundsets and portraits).
Anyway, I have something like 200 soundsets to try out, so what you suggest is not convenient for what I want to try.
I guess I can try jailbreaking and see whether my options expand.
Certainly this is worth looking into. I haven't been active with BG for some time now, does anyone want to volunteer to perform this task? Before I can get to it I have a few scripts I need to write, build a few servers, beat The Bard's Tale, and maybe do some knitting.
If noone gets to your idea, which really is amazing, @subtledoctor then I will eventually get to it
Does biffing work in BG:EE? It really solves all of the lag in BGT games. I too have a mega-mod BGT installation on pc, @subtledoctor but I find playing BG:EE on Ipad better, it looks and feels better to me. And I only have SCS installed without a jailbreak. While I like item revisions, npc and quest mods, etc. SCS is the single most mandatory mod I need. ^^
I very rarely experience lags. When most stational spell effects and fireball blasts are around, fps drops so low but it is not related to mods, it is an engine problem. When a mage or cleric is spawned, the game freezes for a few seconds but that's normal, always had it in pc too. It lasts 2-3 seconds.
Only in Nashkel mines I had some lags with SCS as for now, because the place is so choke full of kobolds and most has smart scripts. I changed scripts of kobolds with DLTCEP, to 'WTASIGHT' which is the most basic script of 'attack enemies at sight' and I don't want kobolds to be exceptionaly smart in their targetting. So I changed their script and it relieved the lag some. Also, if you kill all kobolds in the mines the lag dissappears since their scripts no longer work.
One major hitch I have with Ipad is, as game progresses, save/load times start to drag longer and longer. In a fresh games it is so fast and cool, but after you hit Baldurs Gate it tends to be so slow. (like 10-15 seconds for each save/load) Do you experience this? Is there a remedy?
I found save files were so big in megabytes at that point, and it had .ARE and .STO files of all the places I visited, for some reason. I delete them and nothing happens, no bug in the game, no decrease in load times.
I find that the game save performance DOES slow down significantly. I also wish they had some kind of indpendant auto-save functionality... :S
I suspect that the lack of jailbreak is where the big performance difference comes in... we jailbreakers have a much larger margin for customization within BG which will take its toll eventually.
Edit: @subtledoctor So its been a quiet day... I'm trying the General Biffing mod and its not as cut and dry as copying all files back over - this will break the BG app. I've reinstalled BG now and am making a second effort to note what exactly gets modified so I can copy only what is necessary.
I ran a quick test using Generalized Biffing and it did seem to make my game go faster. I will try again with SCS next week. The output window will tell you what files are created, so I just dragged those to the data folder.
Some more research results: I opened the before and after Chitin.Key files and found that the Data folder was cased differently. Making them all lower case now allows BG to start.
This won't work yet. Since chitin.key now has all uppercase file names and the data files are actually mixed case, I suspect only the load screen works. My next test will be to try to change all the data files to uppercase, since its too complicated to change the case correctly in chitin.key
my bad, it does seem to work without changing the case of the file names. That confuses me. My experiment on 1 mod (the Armor Pack mod) worked. I will try with a full set now.
It works with a full set and performance looks ok. My original issues with SCS appears to be gone from a quick test. The only thing that needs to be done is to replace DATA with data in Chitin.key.
is there any way to get the CLUAconsole to work on (jailbroken) iPad? on PC you have to edit baldur.ini but it's in your My Documents folder, which doesn't exist on iPad, obviously.
I found it because I guessed that there has to be some reason that a very simple mod causes the whole game to crash. After comparing the before & after files, I noticed that the case was different, and someone else had previously mentioned that iPads are case-sensitive.
Another detail I forgot is the folder separator (/) is different. I changed it in my chitin.key but I am not sure if this is a requirement.
Following the instructions as given to set up for modding - iFunBox would not copy the full path (it was only copying //Baldur's Gate.app). I had to use WinSCP to get the full path.
Isra installed okay, but nothing else seems to want to install. SCS is giving errors when I try to install it (the setup file loads okay, but the Initialize component is spitting out errors and failing), and trying to install RR or Neera Expansion causes a window to pop up and vanish again so quickly I can't even see the problem.

See his post here. Thoughts @lunar?

Can someon confirm if GB works for BG:EE on PC?
Good catch @nsr! Let us know if you notice a performance difference. Regardless, if it loads, I am adding it above.
What editor did you use to chance DATA to data in chitin.key?
How the heck did you figure that out?!
Also, I am updating the post #1 instructions right now.
