Gems (make them more than just monetary items)

I think it would be nice if gems were made abit more interesting.

Currently they are simply icons that represent a small gold value.

It would be nice if different gems actually did different things and had more than just a monetary value.

I did abit of looking around and it seems that in Baldurs Gate : Dark Alliance 2 that gems did infact have uses
and could be used in the aid of making crafted weapons!?

(perhaps something to consider for DLC?)

I think many great ideas (even if subtle) could be brought to gem items to make them more interesting

I think someone already mentioned this. I'll have to go search for it.

In the original FR Adventures book, there was a list of gemstones common to the Realms. I'd like to see more from that list turn up, like King's Tears (milky, opalish teardrop shaped stones, each one having an image visible within- some say they are the frozen tears of Archwizards, showing something that the wizard loved and lost, commonly worth 5000gp+ each.), Moonbar is a Pearly white opaque gemstone, etc., etc. There is also Amarantha, or Shieldstone, which can absorb electrical damage, dissipating it harmlessly, at 6 hp per 1 inch of gemstone, which crumbles to dust after the attack. If there is not enough Amarantha to contain all the damage, the stone vaporizes, and the target takes the rest of the damage (or anyone in the vicinity, if it's an area effect spell).

Gems? Make them outrageous. Make them Truly, truly, truly outrageous.
