Wand of wonder ?

I found this wand when playing BG2. Now I'm wondering should I just sell it for 15 000 gold or keep it and use it later. It seems that it fires some random spells when used. But those spells are low level spells which usually your mage has already memorized (fireball, lightning bolt, haste etc). Can it fire some ill effect spells towards your own party also? Is there anybody who rather use this item than sell it?

It depends on where you are in the game - if your party's already swimming in gold, keep it and try it out. If you need the cash (and there's a certain point in BG2 where you can't proceed without a specific amount), sell it.

Or: sell it to the sewer vendor, then steal it back.

It's a nice item to steal since it has high resale value.

IIRC it has a random powerful petrification effect. You may try it and eventually it will hit and kill an enemy in one hit.

It has actually petrified my character far too often
