Question about BG2 party

Hello everyone

I was thinking about having Jaheira/Aerie/Viconia and Yoshimo (later Imoen) in my party (the sixth slot goes for npc quests and mister S in ToB.

My protagonist is a mage , so my only tank would be jaheira - have you ever tried something like that?

I've chosen the three girls because it will provide a lot of banters/interaction/dialogue/romance , 'sides , they're all competent in their own fields!

I've read there's a mod which allows all romances to go on at the same time, which ought to maximize the catfights -- er, banters.

Viconia can do a bit of tanking as well if you up her strength with an item.

Jaheira is one of the strongest tanks in the game once she gets iron skins.

Since we'll be mostly spellcasters, I'll rely on summons and disabling spells to make it easy for jaheira and vicky to tank their way to victory.

I would always recommend two tanks and Viconia has low constitution (magic resistance though), so you could use the girdle of fortitude to boost her constitution to 18 when necessary.

Perhaps you could also consider using another NPC as tank until ToB and then swap him/her for mister s? I would suggest Anomen. He is a really good frontliner/tank with good stats, a buff shield, he will spice up your spellcasting even more with extra cleric spells and most importantly: you will actually be overjoyed when you finally dump him in ToB. Talk about a win-win situation!

Any combination is fine, this isn't exactly a super standard combination (at least until TOB) but it is potentially much more powerful than the ones that are (ie 2 tanks, thief, mage, cleric, random).

Go for it, if you don't like it you can always pick someone else up.

If you just want to pick whatever NPC you find interesting, you could always just edit them in SK to be whatever class you need them to be; e.g. if you want Jaheira to tank, but are sick of her Harper-y goodness, why not take Viconia but copy over Jaheira's class/stats? You essentially end up with the same thing mechanic-wise, but you have a different NPC to banter/romance with.

Power gamers can take this a step further and customize their entire party, without losing out on the banter/romance the same way you would if you made a MP custom party instead.

@IkMarc , I'll keep the sixth slot for quest npc's (nalia , cernd, mazzy, valygar...) and interesting characters (jan, anomen...) , I suppose I'll have to use different tactics with each!

@Lord_Tansheron , your statement makes sense, but I think I'll burn in hell if I change their classes...

    Don't leave out Minsc
he needs Aerie to be his new witch

I would not wish the plague of Anomen on my worst enemies!

Take him for his personal quest, pick the evil path, and then mock him when he loses it after being rejected by the order. He will then attack you, giving you a perfect excuse for wasting him and selling off his equipment! >;-)

Well, just to update my development with a "one fighter" party. I've been using a lot of Yoshimo's backstab , Jaheira's low AC and strength spells on her, and my mages/clerics have been using plenty of slow/hold/charm spells. We're doing fine so far!

Absolutely Viccy can do some tanking. As can Yoshi. My current party consists of both Viconia and Yoshimo and has Jahiera as well. I do have Korgan in there, but basically my front line is K and J and V with Y doing a bit of backstabbing. It is very viable.

Besides, whomsoever you have as the guest NPC might very well have tank ability.

@the_spyder , I totally agree. Except for Nalia , the other quest NPC's available will be Valygar , Mazzy, and Haer D'Alis, and perhaps Korgan as well. (Not keldorn because I don't think I'd allow a paladin next to Vicky). So until spellhold I might have my front line covered.

However, managing spellcasters and rogues isn't as simple as having three tanks - you've always gotta plan your tactics , but it's worth it!

@DJKajuru - I routinely have Viccy and Keldorn in the same party. They make for some interesting banter, but will eventually come to blows. You should be able to keep them together long enough to do Keldorn's quest though. I've literally kept them together the entire game, but I did quick save after every single encounter "Just in case".

Things are going to get heated and fast especially with Aerie and Vicky. Aerie thinks Vicky is an evil whore and Vicky thinks Aerie is a whiny little girl. But it gets fun when Aerie and Jaheira start to bicker. Poor Yoshimo or Imoen who's going to feel very awkward when the three of them start to argue.

I've only done two stronghold quests and they already are! Aerie is totally afraid of Vicky ;D

It is in fact the other way around. Viconia is a deeply sensitive person at heart, clad in a shell of decades of drow sadism and hardened emotion. Aerie lives out openly what Viconia always wished to be, a curious, involved, caring personality. Now that she is out of the Underdark for good, she clings to the remnants of her drow upbringing because that is what has always protected her in a society that would have eaten her alive for being her true self. Aerie's character reminds Viconia of that every day, and she is very, very much afraid that she could finally start shedding her protective mantle - because once she does, the drow-hating surface will sure eat her alive. Another fear, another insecurity, and another step into the vicious cycle of abuse that is Viconia's life. A tormented existence to be sure, and seeing Aerie be everything she never can only makes it worse.
