No More Archer Dart Bonuses?

I couldn't find it in any of the patch notes, but it seems they have made it so that Archers can no longer gain mastery+ with darts/no longer receive archer bonuses on attacks made with darts. When/why they change this?

    Same for Slings I noticed.

Would have thought the secret lies in the name of the kit?

It's an Archer kit, not a "Master of all ranged weapons" kit.

Please leave your snark and witticism at the door. I was just wondering why and when it was changed from bg2.

AFAIK this hasn't changed. The Archer to hit and damage bonuses apply to all ranged weapons, but they were only ever able to go beyond 2 pips in bows/crossbows. Other ranged weapons were limited to 2 pips, and melee weapons limited to 1.

I was checking out the stats last night on a new char. 2 pips in bow and 2 in dart, the only to hit bonuses. Fairly certain I did not have bonuses on the darts

Was the character in question an elf? If so they would receive a racial thac0 bonus with the bow which would be why their to hit would be lower (higher?) with the darts.

I just tested it--all ranged weapons gain the Archer's bonus to attack and damage. Bows and crossbows allow you to gain grandmastery.

If you're playing an elf, though, that might be causing a discrepancy (elves get -1 THAC0 with bows).

I just checked it out in game, and it looks like the archer damage bonuses aren't being factored in when showing the damage range with darts equipped. This is just a case of the display being wrong though; in combat you will still do the appropriate damage.

Afaik archer bonuses that would apply (+1 every 3 levels) start at level 3. The other bonuses are simply grandmastery potential in bows and called shot. If you test it with a level 1 dart thrower, it would be the same as any other fighter-based dart thrower. Can compare with a level 1 fighter-with-bow and archer-with-bow with the same race/stats/items.

Tested with an archer, specialized in both darts and bows; both weapons received the Archer bonus to both attack and damage.

In BG2 at later levels (Watchers keep) an archer with darts was still pretty deadly. 5 attacks per round using wounding or stunning darts pretty much kills most things

come on,why would you want to use darts on your archer, the best dart in game is a returning +3(no additional enhancements),so how about you get a lovely +5 longbow or crossbow instead?

@bill_zagoudis: doesn't the Cloak of the Stars make +5 darts? Although only a few per day, as I recall.
