What Determines the color of the selected rings around your protagonist?

Hey I was just wondering if there was something that determined the color of the 2 rings around your charector when you select them, I ask because my first playthrough was with a sorceress and she had red rings, I then created a Cleric who had gray rings then i made a barbarian who also had gray rings so I assumed they changed the color, however I just started a bard who has Red rings again, so if anyone knows please let me know thanks.

Would be cool if the outer ring was major colour and inner ring was minor colour

ah yes now that you mention it you are correct changing the main color changes the rings color i probably would have caught on sooner if Choosing black as your main color didnt put gray circles around you, though i can understand why thats the case.

Major clothing colour determines the ring colour as well as the colour of your character's name in the message log. It takes the colour pretty much right out of the centre of the colour choice, so "shiny black" might have light grey text/circles while "normal black" might have dark grey text/circles.

I ended up turning the coloured circles off because I became too pedantic over making everyone's circle a different colour.

Yup, it's clothing colour - I changed my party members colours so that my rings were organised by primary function ie. offensive spellcasters were red, healers were blue and so on. Meant I could see at a glance if someone was somewhere they shouldn't be!

I do much the same thing, mostly to make sure that my tanks are toward unknown areas (threats). Left to its own devices, the AI will put mages in position first, so they receive hobgoblin arrows while the tanks make their way around bushes and arrive in time to identify the body.
