Question about Gauntlets of Wep Expertise and MMM

Does the +2 damage bonus from the Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise apply to Melf's Minute Meteors? I know they don't work for spells in general, but since the meteors are technically "thrown weapons", shouldn't they function similarly to darts/thrown axes/etc?
