Questions about a planned cross-platform Francophone multiplayer game

So I'd like to play Baldur's Gate with a French-speaker in another country. He has a Windows PC and I have a Mac and an iPad. My questions are:
1) Should I get the Mac version or the iPad version? Which is the least buggy and most likely to play well with the Windows version?
2) How do players communicate during multiplayer games - is there voice chat? Is it affected by platform?
3) I'd like us both to play the game in French. Am I right in understanding that, at the present time, the Windows and Mac version can be played in French but the iPad version cannot?
4) If I had to play the game in English for some reason, would there be any issue with multiplaying with someone playing the game in a different language?
Apologies if these questions are already answered somewhere on the forums, but it's difficult to keep track of what answers are still valid given that the game is being periodically updated.
