Um, could elves always be Sorcerers? Or is that new in Game Update 7?

I remember that they could not, and I remember thinking that was weird, and I have a half-elven sorcerer to show for it whom I will now, sadly, be rerolling.

I was an Elf Sorcerer in BG2, so yeah. Always.

Just change it in Shadowkeeper? You gimped yourself before, so you only gain a legit advantage after you change it (and perhaps change your stats to use the 19 dexterity).

I'm so confident about this that I'm tempted to do a fresh install on my laptop just to check.

Maybe shadowkeeper, I don't know. I know there are instructions around here somewhere on getting it to work with this version, I just haven't bothered, and it feels a little "cheaty" even if it isn't being used to cheat.

I've always used elven sorcerers, and they've always been able to be sorcerers as long as I've played them.

On second thought, maybe I just made a half-elf so I could reach 20 CON for the convenience of regen.
