Throwing axes proficiency question

Would throwing axes get the benefits of the Single Weapon proficiency?

I'm pretty sure all ranged weapons only get the benefits of their own proficiency class ie Longbows doesn't get Two Handed weapon bonus but I'm not sure about throwing axes

Nope, none of the weapon styles affect any ranged weapons. It should work if you're using a throwing axe in melee mode though (same goes for dual use throwing daggers).

how do you use throwing axes in melee lol

When a throwing axe is equipped right click on it either from the quickbar or the inventory screen. You will then have the option to choose whether to use it in melee or throw it. If right clicked in the inventory screen you will have to click "abilities" under the item description.
