Bookshelf

FerluciFerluci Member Posts: 26
Hey guys,

I was wondering if it where possible to introduce a new element into the interface.
I love the diversity of books in Baldur's Gate. I have always been running around with a lot of books in my character's backpack, taking up inventory space and resulting in a lot of clutter. I was wondering if it would perhaps be interesting to introduce a new tab called "Bookshelf" or something similar, which would basically act as inventory space where you could store books. This way you can keep your favourite books and collect them. You can compare this to the bookshelf on the iPad.

Let me know what you guys think!

Regards.

Or they could automatically write a books content to the notes area of your journal

I do like books to be "actual physical objects" for some reason, thatway it feels like a collectible. But yes, they could do that! :)

I shamefully must admit I never really cared about books in the game. I guess that such a collection that is easy to access for players would give me a great reason to read some if not all of them. I like the idea, I really do :)

I would usually read a new book as I found it, but I think this is actually a fair idea.

I'd sometimes be intrigued when I came across books in-game, but always felt like I had something better to do than sit around and read. Being able to access the books outside of the game would be fantastic - it'd give me something else to read on public transit. :)

I understand that there are tons of people that don't care about the books in the game that don't specifically give you anything as far as gameplay/empowering your character are concerned. As for me, I've read each of the lore books at least once and am happy that I did, they're all interesting. I think that just the possibility of convincing people to not dump them for more inventory space is worth agreeing with, so I agree that some function that added them to a new section of the journal permanently once you've opened them would be nice.

Someone made a great request elsewhere about being able to copy the lore books into you journal. I'd really like to see something like that.

No. A separate inventory screen or storage container specifically for books would be better.

On a side note, I wish books had been more about adding hints to certain quests and dialog in the game.

@Samiel What you do works well, except for when there are 'parts' to the book, then I'd like to read them in order.

Can't you stash the books in a scroll case?

@Lansounet but a scroll case is A: hard to navigate and B: only holds like 20 scrolls

Just find a base with a bookshelf and store them there. ;)

This would be the best idea.

Or if you were able to buy a house, you can have bookshelves like in Skyrim.

I have an image of a poor mage dragging a large box of books around the wilderness, pursued by werewolves.

Haha, I also remember having the De'Arnis Keep and collected many books both special and generic and placed them in my personal library.

I also like the idea with the journal. Maybe they should add a feature where collecting different lore books can give you bonus experience like they have on Diablo III.

    I like this idea

Good, the more support / ideas we get for it, the more likely it is to be implemented!
