Enemy upgrades in BG2

Not exactly how to phrase the title of this thread.

The enemies you face in the various quests in BG2 are often determined by average party level - so lower levelled partis might face an Iron Golem where higher level parties get an Adamantite Golem. LL could face a shadow, HL a wraith; LL an ochre jelly, HL a mustard jelly, etc.

Does anyone know at what average party levels the enemies upgrade?

The specific reason I'm asking is for Watcher's Keep. Since you can get stat-point boosts in there, when I next get to BG2 I'm keen to get them as soon as possible so I get maximum utility from them. At the same time, however, I'd like to get the most experience possible, and I know that many of the enemies in the first level of watcher's keep are subject to the upgrades.

From what I've heard only the first floor scales with level, and every other floor will have the same enemies regardless. I'm not 100% sure on that since I'm usually a fairly high level whenever I do WK anyway.

Also, the stat boosts are on the second to last floor so you'll have to do most of the dungeon to get them.

It's kinda hard to maximise exp in this fashion. If you wait until higher level before going to WK in hope of having the highest level fight on level 1 of WK, then you will have had lower level spawns up to that point in the game. If you did WK early and got a lower level fight on level 1, then you will level up considerably and face harder spawns in the remainder of the game.

True, though it's also just curiosity that inspires this query. Anyone know the answer?

This is not true. Every levels in WK are scaled w/ levels. In my BG2 low level challenge, my avg lvl 8 party faced very easy enemies in WK. The spawn monsters in lv2 are lesser enemies; the demon boss fights in lv3 had fewer and weaker demons; and demogorgon only summoned 1 demon sidekick.

One thing of note: I seem to recall that if you do WK level 1 with a particularly low-level party, you won't get all statues to activate - meaning you will potentially lose out on certain items they drop.

nah. The statues still drop the most important item (the scimitar +4 and some minor enchanted weapons).
