Keyring

Title says it.
Keys are so tiny, they shouldn't take up the same space a Full Plate Armor would. They shouldn't take up space at all.
There should be a keyring, like an extra inventory slot that works like a bottomless bag, but only for keys and only available for the protagonist or something in that direction.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with this - there really are not many classic "key" style items in bg. Most are something more elaborate like wardstones. Also the bag of holding works towards this purpose.

I like this idea. It should be easy enough to implement as well.

You could always argue just to consume the key when it's no longer useful..., but I always enjoyed having all of my keys with me toward the end of the game - kind of like little reminders of where I'd been to get where I am.

While I agree that there are not many in BG, there are A LOT in BG2. In my current playthrough my character was walking around with 7 keys right now and since they are doing the whole UI now, it should be ready for that case. (And there's no bag of holding till half way through BG2).

Hmm, this is an interesting one. I know that a lot of people prefer to just accrue them all, but without scroll cases, bags of holding, etc., keeping things for the simple purpose of having them is a bit tedious. There have been suggestions on this forum concerning books that you've opened being transferred to a new part of the journal, which I think is along the same lines of this request, and I think would ultimately improve the game. Also, and I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that some keys are consumed upon use, and that others are not. I'm always a fan of consistency, so I think that as far as keys that can only be used once are concerned, they should either all be consumed upon use or none of them should. As for a keyring (although for some reason I don't think that name would fit as a BG container), I'm for it. These are plot items and so those that prefer to keep them after use should have some way to do so without taking up inventory space, in this case and in the case of lore books as well...

Normally, I just dump all plot items and keys in the bag of holding. For BG1 there's no such thing though, so a keyring would be awesome :)

I'd also like to point out that most keys you have to use exactly once - prehaps carry them around a dungeon, the dump them on the floor since they become completely unnecessary after opening thier intended door.

@ajwz the problem is for the player to actually *know* which keys are only used once and can be thrown away, and which should be kept for more uses. A good example of this are all the ward stones found in durlags tower... many of them are re-used, some are only used once...

I can't tell you how many times I've wished (in many games) for this option. So many keys, I'm never sure which I've used, and each one taking up a precious inventory slot. This would be awesome.

If nothing else, a bag of holding in BG1 would be incredibly awesome to have. Even if you had to stick it in the bottom of Durlag's Tower so that it's really hard to get or something like that!

@MooseChangerPat - Well, for BG1 terms, Durlags tower would be far to late into the game to make a bag of holding usefull

Bag of holding is too gamey, in BG you are forced to decide sometimes which items to keep and which to leave behind, makes it more cha

    Challenging I mean.

That's the whole idea, it would make it so if you really, really, wanted it you could still get it, but make it tough as nails to get a hold of so as not to completely upset game balance.

Plus a bag of holding would make it easier on players who already find Baldur's Gate plenty challenging anyways :P Even a potion bag would be incredibly useful in baldur's gate 1. (I almost never use potions in 2)

A keyring is absolutely necessary. At least for BGII, but there's no reason not to add it now.

@jaysl659 - How come you don't think "key ring" fits? They've been around for as long as there's been keys.

@MooseChangerPat - The point he was making, I think, was that by the time you finish Durlag's Tower you don't have enough time to collect enough new items for it to be useful as it's probably the last thing you do before heading of to Sarevok. On the other hand, if the New Adventures will bridge BG and BGII and provide post-Sarevok content you might still have use for it there, I guess.

Potion/Gem bags and Scroll books are a whole different thing though.

@scriver It's not that I don't like the name "key ring" in general, just that it's an odd name for a container, since in the case of all the other containers in the game, you put the appropriate objects into them, so a key ring would be a new type of container, since you don't actually put anything inside of it. I was just thinking that maybe a key box or something might fit in better, but the difference would be entirely superficial anyway, so I guess that it doesn't really matter.

As i always fear to lose keys i use one char inventory only to have all the keys needed!
