Neera Should Comment When Edwin Joins the Party (Spoiler Within)

I find it curious that Viconia will comment when Rasaad joins the party (since she worships Shar and he, Selune) but Neera if already in the party, does not comment if Edwin joins. She's being hunted by Red Wizards! I would think it elicits something from her (Viconia's response to Rasaad is not voice recorded, so I see no reason for Neera's to be since that would be impossible at this point anyway).

It is just one of many cases when you do something what should make a character comment, but the character remains silent. My favourite was when I slaughtered the druids in Cloakwood (not the shadow ones) but Jeheira didn't say a word.

I found some lines of dialogue in Neera's file that suggests there was supposed to be a Neera/Edwin interaction where you can tell Edwin to take a hike, but it seems written in a way that requires Edwin to join the party first. Since Edwin is all the way down in Nashkel, that's probably why that dialogue doesn't get used...

Weird - I never pick up Neera first because I save Beregost for later. I wonder if @Jalily can shed light on that to see if its true (if she's not too busy). Maybe they are thinking the way you are.

Edwin reacts to Neera, but Neera basically ignores the fact that he's a Red Wizard. What happens is
Ekandor tells Edwin to die along with the rest of you, Neera zaps Ekandor away, and Edwin orders the remaining Thayans to stand down now that he is the highest ranking one among them. If you allow Neera to join at this point, he says he won't help someone who's the target of his fellow Thayans and makes you choose between them. However, if you kick him out, he just stands right there, and you can immediately recruit him again with no complaints from anyone.

Since 100% of people who will get Neera have her before Edwin, this seems like a missed opportunity. :(

Do you mean the other way around? I tend to have Edwin before I get Neera because you have to rush to Nashkel due to Xzar/Montaron's or Khalid/Jaheira's timers so I tend to save the vast portion of Beregost for later.

Plus, once you know where Neera press-gangs you into service you can skip recruiting her until you feel like it. Despite using Neera in my last few games, I tend to skip her until I recruit some other characters so that I can get the XP from that fight (I'm not 100% sure she shares XP if she kills the enemies in her recruitment fight).

It's not like recruiting Neera is out of the way on the way to Nashkel...you basically have to pass through Beregost...

You can definitely meta-game around this, no question about that.

Well, you have to cross that specific street to meet Neera and start her little event... You can just not walk there and in an RP sense consider that it happens AFTER you've recruited Edwin.
