About NPC's being petrified **Spoiler**

In BGEE In the area just north of Gullykin the party encountered many basilisks. I was surprised that my NPC disappeared entirely while fighting the basilisks along with his/her equipment. I had come prepared with "Stone to Flesh" scrolls. This is a disappointment since there are other stone creatures standing about and even one that can be restored. Just as BGEE shows Branwen petrified at the Nashkel carnival so she can be restored, it was a surprise that they didn't include this for the regular NPCs in my version. Would that be a good thing to correct?

    I think I remember doing that years ago in BG original. But in the version of BGEE I downloaded last week the NPCs just disappear with all their gear when they are hit with basilisk gaze. I wonder if my copy of BGEE has a flaw or bug in it.

    I had Neera cast "Prevent Petrification" on the fighters Charname and Kivan, and Viconia cast "Summon Undead" twice and send them forward, but still an NPC behind the front line was hit by gaze and disappeared. Thanks Bhaaldog, I will report it as a possible bug.

    In fact, after petrification, the body of your NPC shall not shatter in pieces (under attack) or else you will not be able to use the scroll on the NPC

    Maybe this information could be useful for all those Rasaad-haters?

    ONLY send the protected character into battle. Leave the rest of the party off on the northwest corner of the map or something. I usually have my main tank drink a potion of speed, put a Protection from Petrification on them, and send them off on their own.

    @franco

    When you say "disappear" you mean the portrait on the sidebar or you mean their avatar (the one you see in-game) is also gone?

    A petrified character will be removed from your party - that's the intended behavior. But they will be standing there, petrified, as "blue circle" characters.

    But you should be able to use a scroll on them by aiming the magic at them like you'd do with an enemy or neutral NPC.

    Are they shattered after they turn to stone? That means they were hit by an attack afterwards... You're not being clear, what exactly is happening?

    I think he's saying that the portrait disappeared from the sidebar, as if they were "critted" and killed permanently (in which case they cannot be raised).

    My recollection is that sometime during the battle with a basilisk the portrait of the NPC disappears. After the battle I cannot find a stone figure representing the NPC.

    I've gone back to an earlier save to test out some of the helpful comments on this forum. I purposely put Kivan forward against a greater basilisk without protection. He was petrified, but this time after the battle I did find him in stone and "blue circled" as Kilivitz suggested. I think Stygga was probably right that my previous character had become "shattered" after they turned to stone. Odd that the equipment was also gone, but that maybe happens when shattered.

    Thanks to everyone else that commented. Wish I had observed more carefully.

    Equipment does in fact disappear when a character is shattered - this also happens with the wand of frost so you don't want to use it on any enemy that has loot you wish to have.

    This always means that the NPC was shattered and there is no body left to turn to flesh/resurrect.

    Also wasn't ToBex code applied to the engine to prevent equipment of petrified/frozen/disintegrated NPC from disappearing?
