Internet Multiplayer via VPN possible?

Hi everybody!

I was playing Baldur's Gate EE the night - in my local Wifi. We had some graphic issues - but all in all it worked well.

We would like to continue the game with another friend who lives in another city (actually all three of us live in different cities, the friend was visiting me).

Since we're all still waiting for the promised Internet Multiplayer via Beamdog I just wanted to ask if anyone here knows if the game might work in combination with a Virtual Private Network (VPN)?

We have all VPN clients but no experience at all in building our own VPN. Is there a manuel out there? Two of us use Windows 7, one Mac OS X.
