NPCs that are petrified disappear

While fighting basilisks NPCs have been hit by gaze and disappeared in my version of BGEE.
They should still be there as stone figures capable of being restored by a "stone to flesh" spell.

    Sorry, there is no bug.

    After receiving some helpful comments on this forum I replayed from the previous save. The character I sent forward without protection this time was petrified,but he did turn to stone with a "blue circle" beneath him. I believe my previous character may have been shattered right after turning to stone so there was no stone figure left.
